Sydney 2002
The Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales stage a limited competition to identify suitable designs for footbridge prototypes for 30 “black spot” sites around the Metropolitan area.
Lippmann Partnership’s design strategy consisted of a kit of parts – bridge girder, props, stairs, ramp and lift – which could be configured and adapted to different sites with different roadway spans. These elements were to be prefabricated to achieve appropriate quality control and dropped onto site overnight to avoid disruption.
The bridge is lit at night for pedestrian security enabling the voluptuous double curved girder form to become an iconic element within the urban and sub-urban landscape.
