Rushcutters Bay Apartments

“...close to the harbour’s edge, at the interface of the inner city and Sydney’s eastern suburbs, these apartments were designed for a specific demographic...”

This eight storey apartment building in Rushcutters Bay provides 30 residential units, 200 sq. m. of retail space at street level over a two level parking basement. All units face either north or east, and turn their back on the rail overpass to the south. Generous external terraces provide access to winter sun and views of the adjacent park and harbour marina. The building form is broken into four distinct elements, corresponding to interior unit requirements and solar orientation with a glazed slot articulating the building entry. The service core at the rear is expressed whilst providing dramatic views over Paddington to the south from the glass lift. Natural materials internally respond to the site’s nautical context whilst more robust external materials are used externally. A top floor penthouse level also provides a communal roof terrace where harbour views, barbecues and social activities can be enjoyed.
