Lindeman house

"...houses in Sydney with a northern or eastern aspect get the natural benefit of our climate and geography. Not only is this house on an eastern slope but the north/east view is across the harbour to the heads..."

This 550 square metre house was commissioned by a professional couple as a luxury home for themselves and two children. Overlooking Rose Bay with sweeping harbour views of Mosman and Manly stretching right around to Bondi. The north eastern orientation has been maximised to optimise the aspect and the natural illumination of the interior. A large external terrace and level deck swimming pool is wrapped by generous open plan living area which can be opened up via floor to ceiling glazed stacking doors. The travertine floor plane extends from inside to out at one level to maximise the sense of space. Bedrooms are accommodated on 2 split upper levels. Children are separated from parents each with their own bathrooms, studios and living quarters. The plan configuration of the house is organised so that all bedrooms, studies and living areas face north for views and north light while all the wet areas face south. Extensive sliding glass doors provide extensive ventilation. Cantilevered roof overhangs protect the interiors from excessive summer sun while inviting winter sun to naturally warm the interiors. Natural stack cooling is provided with supplementary air conditioning provided to achieve ideal comfort levels in winter and summer.
