Former Rachel Forster Hospital

Redfern
2007

“...the redevelopment proposal for Redfern was a great opportunity to recycle an old building for a new use and to deliver substantial social and economic benefits. The results went well beyond the client’s expectations…”

The use of the Rachel Forster Hospital site as a hospital ceased in 2003 when staff and facilities transferred to the nearby Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown. In 2007, Lippmann Partnership were commissioned by the Redfern Waterloo Authority to prepare a concept plan for the redevelopment of the former hospital site with 140 residential apartments over two levels of basement
car parking with a gross floor area of
15,000 sq. m.

The redevelopment involves the refurbishment of existing buildings while maintaining heritage significant facades and elements as well as the demolition of other less significant buildings and the construction of new apartment buildings in their place
