East Darling Harbour Urban

DESIGN MASTERPLAN II
Sydney
2005

“...the alternative Masterplan was less likely to be implemented but included some relevant big picture ideas, long term planning concepts as well as fascinating mixed use forms integrating green space, water and building…”

This alternative masterplan for East Darling Harbour relies on the same strategy as EDH 1 in that built form is concentrated at the southern end of the site with the significant public green space to the north and Millers Point extremity.

The high rise towers consist of three commercial and residential "eco-pods", 45 and 35 stories respectively on a ground plane of landscaping.

Earth covered forms accommodating hotel and other public infrastructure create a low impact urban landscape complemented by a city beach.

In order to connect the new precinct into the grain of the city, an underground link to Circular Quay was proposed below Observatory Hill, highly activated by a transportation hub, cultural and retail activity.
