DESIGN MASTERPLAN
SYDNEY
2005

“…we brought together an international team… the Sydney Morning Herald called us “the dream team”… to create a Masterplan for Sydney as a future global benchmark of urban planning and sustainability…”

The Masterplan encompasses 22 hectares of prime waterfront dockland accommodating more than 330,000 square metres of commercial, retail, residential and hotel uses as well as significant green space and public domain infrastructure.

Fundamental to the concept was the creation of 3 distinct zones. The northern end, a landscaped “people’s paradise” with beach and activities bringing together local residents, workers and tourists. The second was the active recreational green space bounded by small ports to the north and south and low rise mixed use facilities along Hickson Road. The southern precinct was the commercial hub easily accessible from Wynyard and well connected to the grain of the city.

The project has been highly political involving many different teams and changes to the brief based on commercial interests. Nevertheless, the basic principle established in this compertuition submission have informed the main strategic development of the site.

Some of our original team members Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Lend Lease haver gone on to develop the development in greater detail..
